Sussex County Cricket Club or also known as Sussex Sharks is one of the oldest of eighteen first-class county clubs within England and Wales’ domestic cricket structure which was founded in 1839. Sussex Sharks always held first-class status; they have competed in the County-Championship since its official start in 1890. Whilst the 2019/20 cricket season ended abruptly, the club managed to squeeze out a great finish. I can confidently say (by drawing on over 50 Burwood cricket seasons), this was the best season that our club has enjoyed for many reasons. Two of four senior men’s teams, one of two female teams, one of two vet’s teams, and two of four junior. Junior Club Cricket. Play organised games of cricket at your local club - and your kids will make new friends!

Matt Salisbury
Durham County Cricket Club have announced that Shenfield’s Matthew Salisbury has signed a two year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2022.
Matt joined Durham in May 2018 and featured in every Durham first class and one day game until May 2019 when injury brought his unbroken run to an end. Although available again by late August his appearances since then have been less frequent, but he featured in three of the County’s Bob Willis Trophy games in the Covid-shortened 2020 season.
After his first season he was awarded Durham’s Breakthrough Player of Year trophy, having taken 44 first class wickets including the prize scalps of former international stars Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott.
Matt has now taken 95 career first class wickets at an average of 31.07 and a strike rate of 51.72. His best first class bowling performance is 6-37 against Middlesex at Chester-le-Street. Formerly of Essex and Hampshire, he now seems settled at Durham so, sadly, an imminent appearance in Shenfield colours appears unlikely! Here is a great photo of Matt.

Derek Willmott
We are sad to report that Derek died suddenly last Sunday.
At different times Derek captained the Saturday 2nd XI and the Sunday 2nd XI .
His bowling produced 5 five-wicket hauls, the best being 5-9 in 1988.
He was a Committee Member from 1973 - 1994, Hon. Secretary from 1978 – 1981 and Chairman from 1987 - 1994.
In 1995 Derek was voted in as a Life Vice-President.
Our sincerest condolences to his wife Jill and family.

Jack Plom
Well done to Jack who took 7 wickets in his first 3 T20 matches for Essex. Watch this space next season!
